This is one of the most common questions from practice managers evaluating cleaning providers. Unlike a general office where 2–3 visits per week is often sufficient, medical and dental practices typically require daily weekday service given patient volume and disinfection requirements.
The General Rule for Medical Offices
Most primary care, urgent care and dental practices need daily weekday cleaning at minimum, with exam room and operatory surfaces disinfected between patients or at minimum once per day, regardless of overall visit frequency.
Factors That Determine Frequency
- Patient volume: higher daily patient counts mean more surface contact and faster soil accumulation in exam rooms and waiting areas.
- Specialty: dental and specialty practices with sterilization areas and operatories generally require the same daily standard as primary care, with additional attention to operatory turnover.
- Number of exam rooms or operatories: more rooms in active rotation means more disinfection cycles required per day.
- Immunocompromised patient populations: practices serving higher-risk patients (oncology-adjacent, elderly-focused, pediatric) may warrant more frequent disinfection cycles within the same day.

- Small single-provider practice: daily weekday service, minimum
- Multi-provider primary care or urgent care: daily service, often with mid-day touch points on high-traffic areas
- Dental or specialty practice: daily service with operatory-specific attention
